An acquaintance of Leta's recently said, "Well, it's not as if we have children starving here in America." Sometimes the ignorance of people takes my breath away.

Today is National Hunger Awareness Day, sponsored by America's Second Harvest.

More than 23 million Americans—including nine million children—depend on help each year from this national network of food banks and food rescue organizations, community and faith-based charities, and government agencies.
