Megan Fredickson et al. offer evidence that ants of the Amazonian species Myrmelachista schumanni kill off all vegetation in an area except trees of their host plant, Duroia hirsuta, by injecting them with formic acid-based herbicide.
The resulting monocultured plot is known as a "devil's garden."
