I've still got a ways to go in my filmic education: Jim Emerson presents a list of 102 movies to see "in order to have any sort of informed discussion about movies. They're the common cultural currency of our time, the basic cinematic texts that everyone should know, at minimum, to be somewhat 'movie-literate.'" There's about 20 of them that I haven't seen. Well, I've seen Bambi, but not recently, as it were.

Waterstone's 30 books that deserve to be rediscovered. I wasn't aware that Slaughterhouse-Five had been lost. I might check out Richard Russo's Empire Falls.

Sanjay Kumar has pleaded guilty to fraud charges. On his watch at Computer Associates International during 1999-2000, the company inflated earnings with various dodgy accounting practices and outright lying. Of top executives at CA, only former chairman Charles Wang has come out of this unindicted.
