I prepared my tax returns yesterday but forgot to drive past the mailbox in front of the Vienna post office to mail them this morning. I over-withhold, thereby treating the IRS as a bug Christmas club, so this time of year always means a pleasant surprise.
We held our annual organizing meeting, such as it is, for the
wood duck nest box program at Huntley Meadows Park.
There is snow on the ground, and the lakes are skimmed with ice, but the ducks will begin scouting out cavities natural and man-made in about two weeks.
This meeting is one of the few chances we have to exchange information with Park staff, and to check out the Eastern bluebird nest box program, which gets started about six weeks later.
