As reported by John LeVine in Birdchat, the California Department of Fish and Game reports that AC8, the last wild-born California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus) was found shot dead. This makes us one day closer to the time when there's nothing but starlings in the air.

I bailed out on Ken Dryden's The Game after 50 pages. Dryden was a goalie for the Montreal Canadiens in the sixties and seventies. His memoir is, perhaps, a look at the psychology of hockey, and would be appreciated by devoted fans of the game, especially those familiar with his era.
Unfortunately, I'm rather a newbie at hockey, and I was looking more for a book that dealt with actual game play, something like Pure Baseball, by Keith Hernandez and Mike Bryan.
