Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.
The Commonwealth has scaled back plans for Metro extension to a "Silver Line" that would reach Wiehle Avenue in Reston by 2009. That would be about half the distance to IAD. The sticking point, of course, is getting the federal government to chip in for half the cost. I'm guardedly pessimistic that the Line will go through. I am still miffed with the Fairfax County voters that last autumn voted down an earmarked sales tax that would have funded construction.

Seabiscuit is a decent bit of Capraesque triumph-of-the-bedraggled moviemaking. Its major flaw is the voiceovers spoken by David McCullough. It pains me when a filmmaker doesn't have the confidence of his material to let it stand on its own, to tell a story with images without some bodiless eminence intoning.
Chris Cooper is almost too good for this movie. His quiet ability to do something by not doing much of anything evokes another Cooper from an earlier time.
