booth Saturday's audience was a little bigger (maybe 60) and Sunday's was just as responsive. That the lesbian Kess's line "If you want to talk true meaningless [sex], I've had sex with a man, just so I could meet his sister" is now getting a laugh tells me that the ladies are settling into the right timing for the comic sections of the piece. I regret that I can't hear through the booth glass the little gasps of recognition at the dramatic moments.

Maura came in Saturday evening with a slick of sunburn accented by a pale patch where her necklace had been, so she had to cover up the whiter skin with blusher. Sharon was hurting all weekend, but you couldn't tell that from her work onstage. I knew she was a trouper, but this weekend she was hardcore. If she's not working downtown on a professional stage in a couple of years, I'll be surprised.

One of the unpleasantries of working at RFB&D is that sometimes I have to record something that is arrant nonsense. A case came up on Saturday as I was reading Thomas Dye's Understanding Public Policy. The chapter on taxation discusses the oh-so-appropriately named Laffer Curve as if it were something one could seriously use to implement economic policy. I read the couple paragraphs of text, and I described the diagram according to standard studio conventions. I played back the diagram description to make sure that my splices were clean—no hiccups or mumbled words. But for all that, I might as well have been describing a European map made in 1495 that was sprinkled with "Here Be Monsters."
