Alberta's battery died in the parking lot of the dry cleaners', about a mile from my house. This after I bought her four new tires not yet a week ago. AAA dispatched a truck that arrived two and a half hours later: fortunately, the driver didn't just give me a jump start but installed a new battery on the spot. So instead of sitting in a garage waiting room all afternoon, I sat somewhat patiently in my own car, reading Molloy and listening to the rain come down.

As I noted earlier, Martha (as Evelyn) smashes a can of food down onto a family heirloom cameo. Here's the residue: five weeks' worth of abused canned goods.
She also pitches oranges at the couch, and her slider is coming along very nicely. The authentic grocery bags from the Hy-Vee were provided by Leta's friend Clive.
