Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.
A couple of things that I find interesting in the Pew survey results: Liberals (as defined by the Pew typology), at one-sixth of the general population, are outside the mainstream on gay marriage (80% in favor, as compared to 32% overall). The positive way to put this is that Liberals are in the vanguard.
There is a much broader base of support for pro-environment viewpoints. The specific item on the survey is oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The general public is evenly divided, with a slight edge to those opposing (49%/46%). One of the survey's types on the right, Pro-Government Conservatives, tilts even more strongly against, with 51% in opposition.

We held our first read-through of Steve LaRocque's Perfectly Good Airplanes yesterday evening. Leta, Ira, and I are going to pull this thing together with our cast of Ted and Ali with just three more rehearsals, plus a technical at the CenterStage. That's not a lot of time to get everything done for a 40-minute piece.

Nifty one-page history of the rapid transit system in Chicago, along with a scrollable, zoomable map (though the controls take some getting used to), part of the online Encyclopedia of Chicago, with entries on everything from Abbott Laboratories to Zoroastrians.
