We've had a read-through of the two brief plays that we're doing for the Silver Spring Stage festival in August, Lisa Voss's The Hen gets a Flag and Matt Casarino's Yes, Mamet. They're goofy little comedies.
Mamet is essentially a long sketch about two callow playwrights who converse in woefully bad imitation David Mamet.
I'm doing that with Stephen, Lee, and Laura.
Lee plays the producing director of the theater company whom the
playwrights are pitching to, and she has all the funniest lines.
Hen/Flag is a little darker and more twisted.
It's a I-wanna-break-up-with-you play braided around a training video for dental hygiene. George Washington (me) appears on the scene
to expound on eighteenth-century foreign policy. Laura, Leta, and Andy (from True West) are in that with me.
Lisa, the playwright, is local, and will be at most of the rehearsals.
Sally is directing both.
