pedantic nuthatch
Life in a Northern Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. B.M.A.T.C., and Etruscan typewriter erasers. Blogged by David Gorsline.

Actors and furniture moved into the theater this evening. We got a bit of a late start, as I was back in the rehearsal space, sweeping the floor for stray Scrabble tiles (it's a plot point that Evelyn in anger dumps a Scrabble set on the floor) and emptying the trash can and putting in a new bin liner. At the Stage, it is a tradition (more honored in the breach) that each show leaves the rehearsal space rattier than it was when the team started using it, and so I did my best to breach that tradition.

Sharon has provided the set's dining table and chairs (from her garage) and now that we're working with them (very noisy!), I'm off to the hardware store to find vinyl glides for the ends of the chair legs. The walls of the set are more or less in place, but nothing has been painted yet, and the windows need curtains. We will run the show again Friday with just work lights, and then Jim will be in to set up the theatrical lights over the weekend. First full tech run will be Monday, looking toward a preview audience on Thursday and an opening Friday week. The ladies are just where they need to be at this point; now it's time for the technical stuff.

Recent irritations:

  1. That animated ad for the new movie that shall remain nameless, directed by Woody Allen. I'm trying to read an article in the online New York Times, and this freakin' movie clip is unspooling next to what I'm reading. It brings online advertising to a new level of intrusiveness.
  2. The OS X Mail client from Apple. It is all to easy for it to get crosswise in its mailbox management. You find yourself in a state where you can't move or delete anything from your inbox; as soon as you visit another mailbox and return, the mail is back in your inbox. The only way that I've found to get it unstuck is to reboot the box!
  3. My 27-inch Sony TV, model KV-27FV300, purchased new in August, 2002, and hence now out of warranty. Last summer I had a repairman in to correct a problem that turned out to be a faulty mini button switch on the front control panel. In other words, a $135 service call to replace a dime's worth of parts. Now the TV is showing similar symptoms: no response to the remote control, random jumps from source to source. I've always been brand-loyal to Sony, but this TV set is a lemon.
