Peter Jacso reviews Google Scholar for Thomson Gale, and he doesn't like what he sees:

...you may wish to take a look at a sample of the most productive authors in Google Scholar such as I. Introduction (13,500), A. Professor (3,780), I. Part (2,360) or P. Emeritus (582). As a symbol of the still existing glass ceiling in academia, P. Emerita checks in with 262 hits.

For free searches of scholarly material, he recommends instead the Highwire Press Archive from Stanford University, currently in preview.
