waterfront sign I took a little drive up Wolfe Street in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, looking at street name signs. Down at the riverfront, in the most touristy section, the city has put up these new blue signs, featuring a tall ship design. They're pretty, and suited to the walking pace that most traffic goes at along Union Street.

new green sign
new green sign At the major intersection with Washington Street (which continues southward to Mount Vernon) are two variations on the very conventional, very dull green signs in use throughout the city. These two are on opposite corners, so the block number information is different.)

building mounted sign At this same intersection, an unexpected treat: an old pair of signs mounted on the corner of a building.

old green sign Towards the western end of Wolfe Street I found one of the the city's older green signs. When I moved to this area in the 80s, these predominated in Alexandria. I like the darker green—it's almost a hunter green—which gives the sign a distinctive touch.

We had some pleasant news at the NVTA awards ceremony yesterday evening concerning Perfectly Good Airplanes. Not top honors, but an acting award for Ted and a judge's discretionary award for Steve's script. Well done for us. Leta goes on at a bit more length about the night.
